KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: One man is dead after an exchange of gunfire involving Kamloops RCMP officers and a member of the public near Rose Hill.

According to RCMP E-Division, the incident began at about 4:30 p.m., when police received a report of a suspicious man, possibly impaired, last seen near a camper trailer about three kilometres past the Rose Hill neighbourhood.

When officers attended, there was an exchange of gunfire.

Officers blocked off the area and called in backup, including the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT).
