WHISTLER, B.C. — As municipal politicians descend on Whistler today for the week-long annual UBCM conference, a Kamloops city councillor is poised to take a leading role in the organization.

UBCM Vice-President Arjun Singh is currently the only person officially nominated for the presidency, though there is a loophole that allows others to challenge him if they so please.

“It’s usually a succession. I’ve been a vice-president at different levels for the past three years,” he says. “But people can run against you off the floor of the convention — though for president it’s very rare.”

If all goes according to plan and he becomes president Friday, he says his job will be to represent the interests of all British Columbians.
