KAMLOOPS — Police haven’t given up on their search for a Sechelt woman who was swept away by a mudslide last month while on her way to Kamloops.

67 year old Valerie Morris and her husband Tom were in their 1968 Morgan convertible when the slide hit on Highway 99 near Hat Creek Aug. 11.

Police say the man told officers that he’d been able to get out of the car, but he didn’t know what had happened to his wife.

Mounties assume Morris was trapped in the car and unable to get out. Pieces of the vehicle have been found but not Morris.

The pair were part of a group of six classic Morgans and their owners who had planned a ride from West Vancouver to Kamloops.

RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet notes the search “remains active and ongoing and she has yet to be located.”

“The terrain in the search area is complex and remains unstable and unsafe in some parts. We are continuously assessing possible specialized personnel or technology which may assist in the ongoing search.”

While the search continues, she says police continue to support the family and are providing frequent updates.
