EARLIER: BC Wildfire Service personnel are responding to a new fire this afternoon, not far from Spences Bridge.

The blaze popped up just north of the community, between the Trans Canada Highway and the rail tracks below.

The highway is closed in both directions as firefighters rush to respond.

Fire Information Officer Nicole Bonnett says it’s early, but it’s believed the fire is human-caused.

“At this point, it is suspected to be human-caused. We do have our fire origin and cause team heading out to the site, but obviously until they’ve done their investigation, it’s too early to say officially,” said Bonnett.
