KAMLOOPS — Update: Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says this morning’s house fire in Barnhartvale is now under a police investigation.

“At this time we don’t know if it is suspicious or not how the fire was started. So, at this time we’re investigating and hopefully that will lead us to determine whether it was a suspicious fire or not.”

Earlier: Kamloops Fire Rescue has shed some more light on this morning’s house fire in Barnhartvale.

Acting Platoon Captain Ken Hartt says there was fire and smoke at the entrance when crews arrived on scene.

“Crews attempted an entry but conditions didn’t allow for an offensive attack at that point in time,” he said. “So they switched to a defensive mode which is basically just stay outside and keep the fire under control.”

Hartt said the cause of the blaze is unknown though it started in the basement.

He added all the occupants of the home and pets were outside when crews arrived on scene.

No word yet on damages.

Earlier: Fire crews are at the scene of a “fully involved” house fire in Barnhartvale this morning.

Fire crews were called out around 6:00 AM to the blaze.

Ambulance, RCMP, and Hydro have all responded to the scene, but no indication yet whether or not there were any injuries.

As of 6:45 AM, crews were fully engaged in fighting the blaze.
