KAMLOOPS — A media spokesperson for the Trans Mountain pipeline has confirmed a spill at Darfield, B.C.

The community is approximately 80 km north of Kamloops.

According to the Ministry of Environment a crude oil spill of approximately 100 litres was reported Sunday morning.

No waterways have been impacted and cleanup is underway with vacuum trucks and scrubbers.

A statement from Trans Mountain says its internal safety systems alerted the company to an operational disruption at Darfield Station, and the pipeline was promptly shut down.

According to Trans Mountain “the product is a medium crude blend,” and has been completely contained within Trans Mountain’s facility.

Neighbours and other stakeholders have been notified of the incident.

The pipeline restarted around 3:20 p.m. Sunday following necessary inspections.

The incident comes just days before Kinder Morgan’s May 31 deadline for getting assurances it can proceed with a planned expansion of the pipeline without any further delays.

The controversial project has been met with many protests.
