KAMLOOPS — Nancy Greene Raine retired from the Senate last week, and a retirement dinner was planned for Thursday evening.

The B.C. Conservative Caucaus planned to celebrate Greene Raine at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre.

During her time in the Senate, Greene Raine was involved in numerous important discussions, including assisted suicide, and the legalization of marijuana.

She was involved in the creation of National Health and Fitness Day, which falls on June 2, and her child health bill aimed at prohibiting the marketing of unhealthy food and beverages to children is expected to pass later this year.

“I think we were all subject to Nancy saying, ‘national health and fitness,’ and watching the skiing, watching the walking, making sure parliamentarians stayed healthy, and making sure there were programs,” said Kamloop-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod. “And of course she really focused on the obesity issue in young children and that was really recognizing that was a huge concern for Canada and wanting to do things that would make a difference.”
