Former KTFC athlete misses medals at Commonwealth Games

KAMLOOP — Sultana Frizell has fallend short of an unprecedented three hammer throw gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Frizell, who formerly trained at the Kamloops Track and Field Club, had won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2014.

In 2014 throwing a Commonwealth Games record 71.97 metres.

She needed a minimum of 70 metres on any of her six throws to win the 2018 Games gold.

The best Frizell could manage in any of the six was 63.94, and finished out of the medals.

New Zealand's Julia Ratcliffe took gold at 69.94 metres.

Australians took silver and bronze, with Alexandra Hulley hurling the ball and chain 68.20 while Lara Nielsen had a 65.03.

Frizell now trains at the Ottawa Track and Field Club.
