KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University, represented by Corryn Brown’s rink from Kamloops, will play in Tuesday night’s semi-final against Brock University, a team they defeated 8-2 in round-robin play on Sunday.

The Wolfpack held off Mount Allison and squeezed out a 5-4 win in their final round-robin game this afternoon to claim the second seed at the U SPORTS women’s curling championship. TRU will play the Brock, which led the standings most of the round-robin but lost to the University of Alberta. The Pandas play Mount Allison as the No. 1 in the other semi-final.

The round-robin win by TRU, coupled with a 9-7 Alberta win over Brock on Tuesday, prompted a three-way tie for first in the final standings. Alberta earned top spot based on the tiebreaking format, defeating both Brock and TRU, leaving the Wolfpack second and Brock University third.

In the win over Mount Allison, TRU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but after two blank ends, the Mounties responded with one of their own to even the score. In the fifth end, Brown’s rink scored three to take a 4-1 lead. The advantage shrunk to two in the seventh end when Mount Allison scored one.
