KAMLOOPS — Update: Westsyde Road, between Huntington Drive and Kyle Drive, has reopened to single lane alternating traffic.

Earlier: Janice Lawson had a close up view of the fire on Westsyde Road this afternoon.

“We were actually two doors from where the fire broke out,” she told CFJC Today. “We were at the Chevron station washing our car when it broke out.”

Lawson was close enough to see the fire hoses and “pieces coming off the roof” and said there looks like “there’s going to be a lot of damage” to the home.

She says the fire also brings to mind the need for a second access road in the area.

“That said, our wait is not nearly as devastating as what the fire will be for the family that is living there.”

Earlier: According to the Kamloops RCMP, the fire has closed Westsyde Road between Huntington Drive and Kyle Drive. There is no alternative route around the fire and police are asking people to avoid the area at this time.

Earlier: Kamloops Fire Rescue personnel are trying to snuff out a residential house fire this afternoon.

At about 3:30 p.m., flames were reported coming from the basement windows at 2731 Westsyde Road.

Initial reports from Kamloops Fire Rescue were that there were patients requiring medical assistance, and firefighters were entering the home.

CFJC Today will bring you more details when they become available.
