VERNON, B.C. — Police officers surrounded a Vernon home with guns drawn Thursday night to deal with a distraught man inside a house.

The man was believed to be armed with a long gun inside the home in the 1000 block of 11th Avenue near Middleton Way.

Other occupants from the residence were able to get out safely, with police called around 10 pm.

“RCMP members quickly surrounded the home and could hear a male yelling from inside the residence,” says Cst. Kelly Brett. “Minutes after the officers gained containment of the area, a male exited the home unarmed and was taken into police custody without incident.”
