KAMLOOPS — It's the day powder freaks have been waiting for.

Harper Mountain will finally open for skiing this Friday night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The mountain was originally scheduled to open last weekend but a lack of snow put a wrench in those plans though this week's big dump of snow changed its fortunes for the better.

"We've had 50 centimetres of snow this week and more in the forecast so things are looking like full on winter," says General Manager Norm Daburger.

He says the heavy snowfall will make for great conditions.

"The 50 centimetres of snow this week is sitting on top of that early November snow we had and that's settled into a hard base. So for the start of the year it's looking great."
