Spun out semis close Coquihalla southbound between Merritt and Hope for much of Tuesday

KAMLOOPS —Update: The Coquihalla Highway has reopened from Merritt to Hope though a travel advisory remains in place. Check Drive BC for updates.

Update: The Coquihalla Highway remains closed southbound between Hope and Merritt because of spun out commercial vehicles.

Drive BC estimates it will reopen sometime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. One of the alternate routes, Highway 8, is also closed because of a vehicle incident.

Drive BC recommends Highway 5a to Princeton and Highway 1 as an alternate route.

Earlier: Yet another reason to avoid driving the Coquihalla Highway today.

Drive BC says the highway is closed southbound between Merritt and Hope because of spun commercial vehicles.

An assessment is currently in progress and motorists can take Highway 8 and Highway 1 as alternative routes.

A travel advisory is already in effect on the Coquihalla due to heavy snow.

No word yet on when the soutbound lane will reopen.
