KAMLOOPS — Downtown Kamloops is set to be a sea of flannel and Christmas spirit tomorrow afternoon for the city’s first annual ‘Welcome Winter Block Party.’

Kamloops residents are encouraged to bundle up in their favourite plaid jacket, hats, and gloves and come celebrate the winter season in downtown.

Victoria street will be closed to traffic between Third and Fourth Avenue for the free event put on by the downtown Kamloops Improvement Association, with plenty of festive fun to be had.

“There’s mulled wine, lots of fun activities to enjoy, live DJs and entertainment, ornament making, there’s something for everyone.”

The event will also include ball hockey with Blazers and Storm alumni .

Noble Pig and Iron Road Brewing are among the brewers will be on site as well selling alcoholic beverages to keep adult party goers nice and toasty.

Ali Webster with Downtown Kamloops says along with celebrating the Christmas season, the event is aimed at getting more people to do their Christmas shopping and dining out downtown.

“Our Christmas Cash Card campaign, basically rewards shoppers for shopping downtown. When they spend $20 at participating merchants they get a stamp. Once they fill out their card with stamps and $200-dollars worth of purchases, then they enter to win. So the more you shop the more you have the chance to win amazing prices.”

The grand prize for the campaign is a ‘Downtown Experience Package’ valued at over two-thousand dollars.

Saturday’s block party runs from noon until 6 p.m.
