KAMLOOPS — A local union is doing what it can to ensure the Kamloops’ underprivileged population stays warm over the holiday season.

The United Steelworkers (USW) has launched a winter clothing drive.

“We’re looking for donations of warm coats, gloves, winter hats, sweaters, socks, winter boots, sleeping bags, anything like that and we will be donating anything that we receive to the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Emerald Centre,” says USW Local 1944 Unit 8 President Jordan Mohle.

He says it’s the first year the union has organized a clothing drive and says it’s been prompted by “the alarming number of people unable to escape the cold.”
