KAMLOOPS — The 2018 B.C. Winter Games begin three months from today, February 22.   Two weeks before that the 2018 Winter Olympics begin in South Korea.

As a leadup to the B.C. Winter Games torch lighting at the Tournament Capital Centre tonight, this was Olympic Day in Kamloops.

Hosted by PacificSport Interior and the Canadian Olympic Committee, more than 1500 school age children in the region were at the Tournament Capital Centre.

There were interactive and education games designed to help them learn about the history of the Olympic Games and inspire young people to become and stay physically active.

Several Olympians and Paralympians were on hand for a ceremonial torch run — or in this case, a torch walk.

Along with celebrating the B.C. Winter Games torch lightning, Olympic Day 2017 in Kamloops also marked the province’s official countdown to the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics, beginning February 9 in Pyonchang, South Korea.
