“99 per cent” chance BCLC headquarters staying put in downtown Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — BC Lottery Corporation is taking the next step in determining its long term home in Kamloops.

The Crown corporation is now pre-qualifying companies who could respond to a Request for Proposals for a new headquarters.

President and CEO Jim Lightbody says whether BCLC decides to renew its current building on West Victoria Street or build a new headquarters, the address won’t be changing.

“I would say we are 99 per cent committed to this property here. It would take something pretty dynamic for us to choose another location in Kamloops,” said Lightbody.

“We could contract somebody to build a build-to-suit building for us, or we could actually sell the property, and then lease it back from them, or we could do a joint venture of some sort with a company.”

The current BCLC headquarters is more than 50 years old.

Lightbody says the corporation hopes to take the next steps this fall.
