KAMLOOPS — RCMP continue to look into the death of a 36 year old Kamloops pedestrian on Westsyde Road last night.

The man was crossing the road near the 8th Street interchange when he was hit by a vehicle.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says speeding is being investigated as a possible factor, and investigators will also look into whether the configuration of the complex interchange played a factor.

“If you are doing the speed limit, or even less than the speed limit because it was midnight then you would have time to see someone on the road. Right now it is still under investigation if that was a factor or not, the sight lines of the road. Frankly, if you are doing the speed limit, you should have enough time to stop,” stated Shelkie.

Shelkie says the 20 year old driver did the right thing by staying on the scene and cooperating with investigators.

She notes leaving the scene can result in more serious charges.
