KAMLOOPS — A power outage at the Domtar Pulp Mill is being blamed for the pungent smell across the city Saturday afternoon.

Bonny Skene, Regional Public Affairs Manager, says the outage happened just before 5 p.m.

“The Domtar Mill experienced a total power loss which resulted in the odor-causing emissions, which are typically burned in the system, to be released from the system as part of a safety measure,” said Skene.

Kamloops Fire Rescue says it received dozens of calls regarding the odor.
