Icy roads cause multiple collisions on city bridges

KAMLOOPS — RCMP are asking drivers to slow down and drive to conditions today after several crashes this morning. 

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said there was a two vehicle collision on the Overlanders Bridge, and a multiple vehicle crash on the Halston Bridge. 

The accidents stopped traffic from moving in both directions.

Both incidents were due to icy conditions, and have since been cleared.

“We’re just asking motorists out there to slow down when they cross a bridge,” Shelkie said, “and to give themselves a lot of room between themselves and the vehicle in front of them so they have a good stopping distance. That was the situation for both collisions on both bridges this morning, that it was due to the icy roads.”

Shelkie said no one was injured in the collisions, however a first responder on scene stated a pregnant woman had been sent to hospital as a precautionary measure.
