Vernon begins to dismantle homeless camps

VERNON —  Vernon is the latest B-C city to begin dismantling homeless camps.
Vernon officials say they worked through the summer to ensure several camps were clean and safe, and that the inhabitants were aware of support services, but seasonal staffer for that work is gone and the same standards can’t be maintained.
Vernon’s protective services manager, Clint Kanester says while one camp is being decommissioned, it could spring up elsewhere, so crews are watching the situation.
Homeless residents are being encouraged to take advantage of various shelters or other available programs. (CKIZ)
