Fishing closure on Merritt waterways

MERRITT, B.C. — Rising water temperatures have led the government to shut down fishing on several Merritt-area waterways.

Effective immediately, there will be no angling on the Nicola River, Coldwater River and Spius Creek.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations says the move is an effort to “protect steelhead and other trout from health risks associated with rising water temperatures.”

The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
