BARRIERE — The subject of an intense search in the Barriere are has been found – and is now in hospital.

Alan Hobler of Kamloops Search and Rescue says 72 year old Roy Lampreau was found yesterday afternoon.

He says Lampreau’s truck rolled over top of him and pinned him underneath for 32 hours on a remote back road north of Barriere. Well over 70 members of the Chu Chua band searched for him, joined by Search and Rescue teams from throughout the area. Lampreau could see planes flying overhead and tried to signal them by reflecting sunlight on his watch, with no success.

When crews found him, it took an hour to rescue him and get him to an air ambulance helicopter, which took him to hospital for treatment.

Hobler says it was a great effort by search and rescue crews from throughout the interior and members of the Chu Chua area, who searched day and night for him until he was found.

He had gone out to collect firewood Monday morning, but never returned.

An RCMP release earlier noted Lampreau is diabetic and takes medication for high blood pressure as well, and there was concern as to his well-being.
