KAMLOOPS — The first major Kamloops road construction project of the summer begins this week.

The city has contracted Dawson Construction to do a full rehab of Notre Dame Drive between Hillside Drive and Columbia Street.

Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says it’s being arranged to have as little impact on commuters and businesses as possible.

“All the milling and paving will be done at night,” said Crundwell. “We’re trying to minimize the disruption to businesses and to the public by doing most of it at night.”

“There will be various single-lane alternating (closures) during the day on one side or the other, depending on which lanes they’re working on.”

Crundwell notes the nighttime construction can be done because there are no homes in the area, meaning the noise shouldn’t wake anyone up.

“We weighed the impact of doing the work during the day. There will be some noise, but it’s pretty low risk, given that there is no residential in the area.”

The project is slated to be completed by mid-July.
