Large Turnout at Ajax Public Meeting

Lots of views pro and con at a meeting sponsored by the City of Kamloops last night over the KGHM-Ajax mine proposal. The consultant hired by the city was there to gather public input to help decide what the city should be looking at in the Ajax environmental application, which was submitted by the mining company earlier this month.

Local resident and realtor Eric Putoto says he has a number of concerns about the project. One of them from a business point of view relates to property values. Others worried about the possibility of long-term effects from tailings ponds, as well as the more immediate effects from blasting that will happen as part of the mining process.

Last night’s meeting was the first of several that will likely take place as the environmental assessment occurs.
