Delays expected as northbound lanes of Coquihalla closed south of Merritt

MERRITT — (UPDATE 7:00 p.m.): DriveBC says drivers on the Coquihalla can expect minor delays due to vehicle recovery work south of Merritt.

It says there will be traffic control personnel in place

(UPDATE 5:30 p.m.): DriveBC says northbound traffic on the Coquihalla, south of Merritt, can expect major delays in the area because of a pair of crashes.

It says traffic control personnel are on scene after two separate vehicle incidents just before the turnoff for Highway 97C, the Okanagan Connector.

A replay of the DriveBC camera at Comstock Road, south of Merritt, shows snow falling around 12:45 p.m. Thursday, with traffic initially coming to a standstill just before 4:00 p.m. Vehicles began flowing past the area about 15 minutes later.

DriveBC is also advising drivers of slippery sections on the entire on the Coquihalla between Hope and Kamloops because of the snow.

ORIGINAL – Northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway are blocked because of a crash just south of Merritt.

DriveBC is reporting a vehicle incident between Exits 276 and 286, with drivers being told to expect delays of up to one hour. Tow trucks are on scene, according to DriveBC.

It also says there are traffic control personnel on scene, with the next update expected at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 23) evening.
