KAMLOOPS — The TRU WolfPack men’s basketball team came within minutes of pulling off the upset of the season against the undefeated Victoria Vikes Saturday night (Jan 19).

The WolfPack were up 80-73 with about five minutes to play before a 12-2 run helped the Vikes stay undefeated, as they eked out a narrow 87-84 win. Eight of those 12 points were courtesy Renoldo Robinson who finished with a game-high 33 points and six steals.

The WolfPack, who trailed 44-41 at half time, had a chance to tie the game in the dying seconds but they couldn’t find a way to force overtime at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC).

Dami Farinloye led the WolfPack in scoring with a career-high 27 points, six rebounds and two steals. Reuben Wright added 11 points and six rebounds while Cyrus Harrison chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds of his own.

The WolfPack drop to 6-8 and sit fourth in the Pacific Division, with six games to go. The top five teams in the division will qualify for the postseason. The Vikes improve to 12-0 and are the only team across U SPORTS men’s basketball still undefeated this season.

The WolfPack women’s team also put up another spirited performance at the TCC but they were unable to find their first win of the season.

The 0-14 WolfPack fell 64-45 to the Vikes, who improved to 8-5.

With 11 points and 18 rebounds, Kamloops native Morgan Eichenberger recorded the second double-double of young WolfPack career. Her 18 rebounds is the most in a game by a WolfPack rookie.

Priyanca Sundher led the WolfPack in scoring with a career-high 16 points while Kate De La Mare tallied five rebounds and three blocks.

Next up for the WolfPack basketball team is a pair of home games against the UNBC Timberwolves on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24 and 25.

The women will play at noon on Friday, with the men’s game scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
