RED DEER, ALTA. — The Kamloops Blazers are on a season-high five game losing streak after a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Red Deer Rebels Saturday (Dec. 14) night.

Ryan Michael and Emmitt Finnie were the goal scorers for the Blazers, who have one more game to go on their weekend Alberta road trip.

The two teams played a goalless first 20 minutes at the Peavey Mart Centrium before Trae Wilke scored the Rebels teddy bear goal at 2:59 of the second period.

Cohen Poulin then doubled the Rebels lead about three minutes later before Michael clawed one back for Kamloops at 8:22 of the second.

The Rebels added another pair in the third period courtesy Talon Brigley and Matthew Gard, before Emmitt Finnie scored a late consolation goal for the Blazers in the final minute of action.

Chase Wutzke stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced to earn the win for the Rebels. The Blazers’ Logan Edmonstone turned aside 22 of 26 in a losing effort for the Blazers, who have given up at least four goals in nine of their last 10 games.

Tommy Lafreniere added an assist Saturday to extend his point streak to 11 games, while Finnie has seven points in his last three games.

The Blazers remain in ninth in the Western Conference with a 12-17-2-0 record, three points back of the Kelowna Rockets who are in the final playoff spot.

They’ll close out the first half of the WHL season with a game against the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Their next home game will be on Friday, Dec. 27 against the Vancouver Giants.
