June 23, 1994 – May 14, 2022   

Derek had kind eyes, a deep feeling soul, and a smile so bright it was like sunshine. He was always personable and well-liked by everyone he met. He was bright, and a fantastic problem solver. He was passionate about history and politics, and he enjoyed a good debate about issues that were meaningful to him. These debating skills also served him well in haggling to get a good deal – he was very persuasive. 

Valuing freedom above everything, Derek believed it is the most necessary of all human needs to flourish and achieve happiness. He loved learning new things, and was game for any adventure, especially car trips. 

He had dreams of homesteading, beekeeping, being self-sufficient, and having a family one day; he sought peace. 

Derek was good and an earnest person, who experienced many things, knew many people, and had been to many places – he should have seen, known, and done more for many years to come. 

We sincerely hope that his soul has found the peace and freedom he so deeply desired. 

Derek is forever missed by all who knew him and love him.
