KAMLOOPS — The toxic drug crisis claimed two more lives in Kamloops in October.

New numbers from the BC Coroners Service show 83 deaths due to toxic drugs in Kamloops through the end of October. That is just one short of the 84 deaths Kamloops experienced for all of 2023.

With two months of statistics still to be reported in 2024, the city is only nine away from equalling its record 92 drug-related deaths recorded in 2022.

Overall, the province reports 155 deaths due to toxic drug use in the month of October, pushing its year-to-date total to 1,925. That is nine per cent lower than the total BC saw through the first 10 months of last year.
