Finnie scores early but Cougars double up Blazers in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — Emmitt Finnie scored less than 30 seconds into the game, but the Kamloops Blazers fell 6-3 to the Prince George Cougars Saturday (Dec. 7) night.

Goals from Finnie, who added two assists as well, and Jordan Keller had the Blazers up 2-0 inside eight minutes at the CN Centre, before the Cougars finally struck on their teddy bear toss night.

Rookie defenceman Carson Carels third of the season at 15:28 of the opening period brought down thousands of bears and made it a one goal game.

Aiden Foster tied things up at 2-2 at 13:56 of the second period, before Keller restored the Blazers lead less than a minute later with his second power play goal of the night – a tap in past Joshua Ravensbergen in the Cougars net.

From there, it was all Prince George though as the Cougars scored four unanswered to beat their BC Division rival for the third time this season.

Logan Edmonstone was busy in the Blazers net as he turned aside 39 of 45 shots. Joshua Ravensbergen picked up the win for the Cougars with a 25 save effort on 28 shots.

Hunter Laing and Koehn Ziemmer had three point nights for Prince George who took over second in the Western Conference with a 15-8-3-2 record, after Victoria was beaten 4-2 by Kelowna last night.

The 12-16-1-0 Blazers have lost three in a row and eight of their last ten games to sit ninth in the Western Conference, one spot out of a playoff berth following the Rocket’s win.

The Blazers are back in action this Friday, Dec. 13, in Calgary, where they will take on the Hitmen in the first of three in a row in Alberta. They’ll also play games in Red Deer and Edmonton before the WHL holiday break.

The Blazers’ next home game is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 27, against the Vancouver Giants.
