Fern Ruth Wende

Posted Dec 2, 2024 | 10:39 AM

November 25, 1937 – November 18, 2024

Fern Ruth Wende, 86, passed peacefully on November 18, 2024, into the arms of our loving Lord and Savior. Fern was born in Markinch, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1937, to Kasper and Erma (Bothel) Blaser. She grew up in Markinch until December of 1948 when they settled in Nanaimo, B.C.

Fern met the love of her life, Walter Wende at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church during confirmation around the age of 13. Their love story began on August 29, 1958, and a few years later they welcomed two boys, Paul and Brent.

In 1972, they made a move to Kitimat, B.C. where they spent two years before moving to Kamloops, B.C., when Walter started a job at Weyerhaeuser. Fern and Walter raised their two boys alongside many Greenstone neighborhood friends that they cherished very much.

The Wende’s practiced the Lutheran faith and were highly involved in the congregations, where they made many friends there as well. Fern was also the secretary for Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Upon the closure of that church, they attended both Lord of Life and Hills of Peace where once again, they made several new friends. Outside of church, Fern was involved in the Kamloops Choristers for many years, was part of the executive for the Crohn’s and Colitis Kamloops Chapter, volunteered with the 1993 Canada Games and also enjoyed her time spent at the Kamloops YMCA in Dancercise with the ladies over the years.

In 2015, Fern was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. While the disease slowly progressed, the family continued to support her and assist in anything she needed. Fern eventually resided in Kamloops Seniors Village and was so happy to receive her daily visits from Walter and the rest of her family.

Fern was predeceased on her side of the family by her Parents ~ Kasper & Erma Blaser, Stepmother ~ Mary Blaser, Brother-in-Law ~ Brian Abbott, Niece ~ Heather Brawner. She leaves behind, her loving husband Walter Wende, sons Paul Wende & Brent Wende (Corinne) and grandchildren Kyle Wende, Marissa Wende and Michael Wende. Sister Lorraine Abbott, as well as many Brother and Sister In-laws, Nieces, Nephews and not to forget many friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Kamloops Seniors Village, Hills of Peace Church as well as the many family and friends that visited and checked in on Mom during her illness and final days.

Please join us in a Celebration of Life at Hills of Peace Lutheran Church (695 Robson Dr.) on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Gathering to follow.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)

You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Wende family.
