WolfPack complete sweep of Huskies in men’s basketball action

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s basketball team are going into the Canada West holiday break on a winning note, after a 75-62 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies at the TCC Saturday (Nov. 30) night.

The WolfPack held the Huskies to 28 points in the second half as they completed the weekend sweep.

Just like he did during Friday’s win, WolfPack guard Asher Mayan led the way for the home team with 18 points and six rebounds. Dami Farinloye added 17 points while Denys Bachurin chimed in with 14 points and six assists.

The win takes TRU into sole possession of third place in the Pacific Division with a 5-5 record, while the Huskies remain winless at 0-8.

In women’s basketball action, another tough night for the WolfPack at the TCC as they fell 96-36 to the Huskies, who are ranked sixth in the nation.

Logan Reider led the way for the visitors with 40 points, 33 of which were three-pointers at the TCC.

Sydney Vollrath put up eight points in 20 minutes of action for TRU, while rookie Allison Hansen added six points and five rebounds. Morgan Eichenberger also finished with a team-high nine rebounds for TRU.

Next up for the WolfPack men’s team is a pair of exhibition games in California. They’ll play Hope International on Dec. 16 and Westcliff on Dec. 18, before hosting the Trinity Western Spartans on Jan. 4 at the TCC.

The WolfPack women are scheduled to take part in the Wesmen Classic Dec. 27 to Dec. 29, an annual holiday tradition hosted by the University of Winnipeg over the Christmas holidays.

Both WolfPack teams will be back in Canada West action on Jan. 10, 2025 when they travel to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds.
