KAMLOOPS — RCMP say they’re still looking for three suspects who escaped despite a large police presence in downtown Kamloops Friday (Nov. 22) morning.

In a news release, RCMP say an officer was patrolling near the Halston Connector at around 4:40 a.m. this morning when he attempted to stop a truck and a trailer that fled from police.

“The investigation would later reveal that the truck and trailer were both stolen, and firearms were present inside the vehicle,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson says.

Evelyn says the truck and trailer evaded a police stop on Mount Paul Way and fled onto the highway where it reportedly hit a semi-truck before it made its way downtown, where several parked vehicles were hit.

Evelyn says the trailer came off the truck on Battle Street downtown, and another vehicle was found inside it. Police did not say what kind of vehicle they recovered.

“The suspects continued on in the truck, then abandoned it on Bluff Place and fled on foot,” Evelyn said. “Three suspects were seen running throughout the downtown and through backyards, as police officers, including the Police Dog Service Unit, looked for them.”

Evelyn says a dog which was found inside the abandoned truck was taken to the animal shelter to be cared for.

The truck, described as a silver crew cab with a canopy, was reported stolen out of Williams Lake while the trailer was stolen from Quesnel. The trailer has been towed away from the scene, and police say no injuries were reported.

Those with information or security video that may be useful to police are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-38262.
