B-100 Basics for Babies fundraiser returns Friday morning

KAMLOOPS — B-100 Basics for Babies returns Friday (Nov. 22) in hopes of raising thousands of dollars, diapers and formula for the Kamloops Food Bank’s youngest clients.

The annual breakfast event is the only formal fundraiser specifically for the baby bank. That section of the food bank provides families in need with diapers, formula, baby food and hygiene products for infants and toddlers.

“Formula, diapers, baby food — it’s all crazy expensive and so for a lot of people that are maybe already struggling it’s hard to find that income for baby products, as well,” notes Kennedy Epp, Kamloops Food Bank’s events and communications coordinator.

This year’s fundraiser comes on the heels of a new National Hunger Count report, which showed children make up 33 per cent of food bank clients in Canada. Last year, Kamloops residents raised $185,000 for the baby bank, alongside 2,600 lbs of baby products.

“It honestly leaves me speechless. It’s so heartwarming when people come out in such a big way to support our community,” adds Epp, “and just to know that we have a small piece in that, in helping these families who are struggling and need that extra support. It’s just amazing to share that with our community and share that bit of feeling good.”

B-100 Basics for Babies is coming up tomorrow from the Delta Hotel downtown, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Those wanting to take part can drop off a donation using the drive-thru outside the lobby, or buy a ticket for the breakfast buffet, with live entertainment.

CFJC will also be televising a live broadcast from the lobby of the Delta Hotel, beginning at 7:30 a.m, which can be streamed from CFJCToday.com.
