Kamloops RCMP investigating motive behind Parkcrest Avenue shooting Friday

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are seeking information from the public as they investigate a shooting incident in a Brocklehurst neighbourhood Friday evening (Nov. 15) which injured one person.

Shots were fired in a residential area and the serious nature of the incident brought out a large police presence. It’s not the first time this year police have been called to that neighbourhood.

Around 5:00 p.m. Friday, police were called out to a home in the 1700-block of Parkcrest Avenue, after someone allegedly phoned 9-1-1 and reported that they’d been shot.

“Police arrived, they located a victim who was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries,” explains Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

It was reported that the victim was in an outbuilding at the property when he was shot by an unknown number of suspects, who then fled through the backyard toward the train tracks.

“There was a heavy police presence in the area — including our police dog service team and members of the (Southeast District) Emergency Response Team — due to the increased risk presented when a firearm is present or reported to be present,” says Evelyn. “Unfortunately, no suspects were located and the investigation is ongoing.”

RCMP were on scene over the weekend, but as of Monday (Nov. 18), the street appeared quiet. Neighbours who spoke to CFJC declined on-camera interviews, but did say in recent years, police have responded to several incidents in the neighbourhood.

Those include an alleged assault and weapons report back in February and another incident further down the road in the 1800-block of Parkcrest Avenue involving several stolen vehicles and firearms in June of this year.

Regarding this most recent event, Mounties say the victim is known to police and the incident is believed to be targeted. As part of the ongoing investigation, RCMP are working to find out what led to the gunfire.

“As Superintendent Jeff Pelley mentioned in the media release that went out on the weekend, it’s very concerning. To police and to the public as well whenever there’s extreme violence, especially violence involving a firearm,” adds Evelyn. “We are asking the public to please contact us if they have any information.”

Mounties are asking for any information, including video footage, that might be related to the shooting to be directed to the Kamloops RCMP detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2024-37594.
