Keller’s four points leads Blazers to win over Giants

VANCOUVER — A four-point night for Jordan Keller, which included his first career WHL hat-trick, helped the Kamloops Blazers to a 6-2 win over the Vancouver Giants Friday night, Nov. 15.

Keller, the Kamloops native, scored the visitors final three goals at the Langley Events Centre – two short handed and one on the power play – as the Blazers improved to 11-9-1-0 this season.

Goals from Kai Matthew, Emmitt Finnie, and Nathan Behm had the Blazers up 3-0 less than six minutes into the second period, before the Giants struck through Tyus Sparks.

Keller scored twice in the second and completed his hat-trick with an empty netter in the third period. Brett Olson had the Giants other goal, his first in the WHL, to give the home fans a little bit to cheer about.

“It was a good night. I think our whole team played well. We played a full 60,” Keller said, post-game, as the Blazers coasted to their ninth win in their last 12 games.

Dylan Ernst turned aside 31 of 33 shots to pick up the win for the Blazers. Vancouver’s Burke Hood allowed five goals in 33:09 of action to pick up the loss while Matthew Hutchison made six saves in 25:15 of relief.

The Blazers will head further south this weekend to play the Wenatchee Wild on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The 6-10-2-0 Wild are in last place in the Western Conference while the Blazers are in sixth.
