LOGAN LAKE, B.C. — The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC) is unveiling details of a massive solar project being built on reclaimed land within the Highland Valley Copper property near Logan Lake.

The project, quA-ymn Solar, is a partnership between NNTC and BluEarth Renewables, facilitated by a $35-million loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank.

quA-ymn Solar will see 38,000 fixed-tilt solar panels built and connected to the B.C. Hydro grid. The 15-megawatts of electricity it will produce will be enough to power more than 2,000 homes annually, according to NNTC.

The project is already under construction. At its peak, the venture is expected to provide about 100 jobs.

“This is an important project for the NNTC and our member communities and confirms for us that the disciplined and principled approach the NNTC has taken best protects Nlaka’pamux title and rights,” said NNTC Chief Matt Pasco. “We are sending a clear message together that after years of hard work in developing new, creative, recognition-based approaches to land and resource development, combined with deep and respectful relationships, that these are the foundations for how we make decisions together throughout the Nlaka’pamux homeland.”
