WolfPack men’s basketball team opens season with 83-79 win over Heat
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s basketball team avoided a Halloween scare and tipped off the 2024-25 Canada West season with a win Thursday (Oct. 31) night.
Asher Mayan, a fifth-year forward, led the WolfPack with 21 points (five-for-11 shooting) – including 11 in the fourth quarter – as TRU defeated the University of British Columbia (UBC) Okanagan Heat 83-79 at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC).
Third-year guard Cyrus Harrison added 20 points on six-for-14 shooting and had four rebounds and four steals.
“We showed a lot of resiliency and toughness, there were stretches where things were going well and stretches where they weren’t, but we just found a way to stick together and show resiliency and battle through those lulls together,” Chad Jacobson, WolfPack men’s head coach states. “We talk about how winning is a skill all the time and it’s something you need to learn how to do. Last year we were in a lot of close games that didn’t go our way so to be able to close one out early in the year is good for our group.”
