KAMLOOPS — The Salvation Army is getting ready to wrap up its first winter season program this Friday (Oct. 25) in support of those less fortunate.

‘Coats for Folks’ has been collecting warm winter jackets, along with gloves and tuques to provide to those in need throughout the community. Friday is set to be the last day for donations before the Salvation Army opens its doors next week to begin handing out the crucial winter supplies.

“We’ve started our Coats for Folks program and with that, we are just asking the community to come and donate something warm — whether it’s a jacket, a tuque, jackets, gloves, and come in to the Salvation Army at 344 Poplar Street and donate. We are sorting it, organizing it in gender and size and then next week we open our doors for clients to come in to choose a jacket or something warm for the season,” said Major Tracy Goyak, Kamloops Salvation Army.

The tuques were donated by a group of knitters in the community to be given out this winter.

The Salvation Army will continue to accept donations past this Friday and throughout the winter, allowing it to help as many residents as possible this year.

“As long as the donations are coming in, we are hoping to see 200 people come in and receive a jacket this year. Depending on if we have the donations, that will also depend on whether the clients get the jacket they are looking for,” added Goyak.

Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army at 344 Poplar Street on the North Shore.
