KAMLOOPS — Kamloops-North Thompson MLA-elect Ward Stamer has tendered his resignation as mayor of the District of Barriere.

The resignation letter posted to the district’s website is dated Monday (Oct. 21).

Stamer, running under the BC Conservative banner, was the runaway winner in Saturday’s provincial election for the riding of Kamloops-North Thompson. He received 60 per cent of ballots cast in the riding, easily outdistancing NDP candidate Maddi Genn and Green candidate Tristan Cavers.

In the letter, Stamer says he has “been humbled and honoured in serving the residents of Barriere since being elected as part of Barriere’s first municipal [c]ouncil in 2007.”
