Thick fog can’t cloud tree-planters’ enthusiasm at Aberdeen’s West Highlands Park

KAMLOOPS – Members of the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Association and Youth of Kamloops Climate Action Network gathered at West Highlands Park Sunday morning (Oct. 20) to plant some trees in the community.
This is the second annual autumn tree planting. The event was held as an open house where people could show up anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to help dig, water and plant trees — or even just enjoy some coffee and cookies. Five new trees were planted in the park by the end of the day.
“Tree planting is so important because you’re actually creating habitat and food sources for wildlife,” said Gina Morris of the Youth of Kamloops Climate Action Network. “Right now, the world is losing biodiversity very quickly so it’s really good to be doing tree planting for that reason. We also know that trees create a cooling effect. Right now, we’re having a lot of heat domes so the trees provide cooling for this region.”
