Electoral Officer for Kamloops-North Thompson riding talks advance voting, election night

Oct 17, 2024 | 10:30 AM

KAMLOOPS — David Poulin is District Electoral Officer for the Kamloops-North Thompson riding.

As of Wednesday (Oct. 16) morning, about 9,000 votes had been cast in the district for the upcoming provincial election.

He said that number is quite high compared to the last pre-pandemic vote in 2017, when 2,700 votes were cast in advance.

Poulin suggested more people voted in advance amid the pandemic during the 2020 election and found it to be convenient.

Part of that convenience can be attributed to improvement in technology, which is streamlining the voting process, Poulin said.

He noted improved technology and the use of tabulators will be beneficial on general election day on Oct. 19, with results expected to begin rolling in about 15 minutes after polls close at 8:00 p.m.
