Nearly one-third of Kamloops Centre voters take advantage of advance voting period

KAMLOOPS — Nearly 30 per cent of eligible voters in Kamloops Centre participated in advance voting.

Numbers released by Elections BC show Kamloops Centre had 3,337 ballots cast on the final day of advance voting on Wednesday (Oct. 16). It’s the highest single-day count during the advance voting period.

Over six days of advance voting, 12,979 registered voters cast their ballots ahead of general voting day on Saturday (Oct. 19). That represents 29.8 per cent of Kamloops Centre’s 43,618 registered voters.

Other advanced voting turnout numbers are as follows:

  • Kamloops-North Thompson – 10,963 (22.9 per cent of 47,773)
  • Cariboo-Chilcotin – 8,798 (27.3 per cent of 32,228)
  • Fraser-Nicola – 8,760 (26.8 per cent of 32,742)
  • Salmon Arm-Shuswap – 14,189 (28.1 per cent of 50,514)

More than 1 million British Columbians cast their ballots in advance voting. The 1,001,331 votes cast represent 28.2 per cent of total registered voters in B.C. In a post to social media, Elections BC says it’s the most votes cast during the advance voting period in a B.C. general election.

CFJC will also have election coverage focusing on both Kamloops ridings, as well as the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Fraser-Nicola and Salmon Arm-Shuswap on Saturday night, beginning at 11:00 p.m.
