Pile burning taking place in Salmon Arm; smoke expected to be visible
KAMLOOPS — Residents in Salmon Arm may notice smoke throughout the rest of October.
The BC Wildfire Service says crews will burn nearly 10 piles at the Rappel Base within the City of Salmon Arm this month. In a news release issued Tuesday (Oct. 15), the service says it’s meant to reduce wildfire hazards by removing accumulations of fuels such as dead wood and brush.
The wildfire service says pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable. It says piles will also be extinguished before crews leave the Rappel Base site at the end of the day.
Pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable. BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these piles at all times.
