Merritt emergency room to close Friday evening, reopen Saturday morning

MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt will once again be without emergency medical services Friday night (Oct. 11).

Interior Health says the emergency department at Nicola Valley Hospital will be closed as of 6:00 p.m. Friday, reopening Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

The closure is blamed on limited nursing availability.

Patients in need of emergency medical care are advised to call 9-1-1 or visit the emergency room at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Earlier this month, Merritt mayor Mike Goetz was given an IH document suggesting this could be one of dozens of closures of the town’s emergency room before the end of the year.
