Feature film production chooses locations in Cache Creek, Ashcroft, Spences Bridge

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — The latest film production to use areas of the Thompson Nicola Regional District as a backdrop has been shooting for about one month.

The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission (TNFC) says ‘Lunar Sway’ is a dark comedy written and directed by award-winning Canadian filmmaker Nick Butler.

According to TNFC, the film stars Noah Parker as the resident of a small desert town “who starts on an unexpected adventure with his distanced birth mother, in the middle of his own personal struggling relationship.”

Theatrical release for the film is expected in late 2025.

Butler chose locations around Cache Creek, Ashcroft and Spences Bridge for the film. Businesses that will be featured include the Oasis Hotel and Pub, BN Dulay’s, and the Desert Inn in Cache Creek, as well as Vulture Garage and Baits Motel in Spences Bridge.

“Working with Nick Butler has been a dream. He has been very hands-on, knows what he is looking for, and it was exciting to see him discover the locations that would later be used in his film. He felt comfortable asking a lot of questions which really helped me to hone in on what he was hoping to achieve, so that I could do my best to support him,” said TNFC Film Commissioner Terri Hadwin.

“Terri has been an invaluable, ongoing support system for our production,” added Butler. “She helped us find breathtaking locations in the Thompson-Nicola area that will add so much to our movie. Shooting here has been an incredible experience.”
