La Rotta lifts WolfPack to program milestone, first win over Spartans

LANGLEY, B.C. — The TRU WolfPack soccer clubs were undefeated on Saturday (Oct. 5) in Langley.

On the women’s side, the Pack enjoyed a milestone moment, earning a victory over the Trinity Western Spartans for the first time since joining the Canada West ranks in 2014.

After a wonderful set up from Berea Woldeyes, rookie Juli La Rotta scored in the 70th minute to lift the Pack to a 1-0 victory over the Spartans (5-3-2), the seventh-ranked team in the country.

WolfPack goalkeeper Cassandra De Amaral kept a clean sheet.

TRU improved to 4-5-2 and jumped into playoff position, sitting fourth in the Pacific Division ahead of a crucial match against the UBC Okanagan Heat (4-5-1) of Kelowna, a 7 p.m. start on Friday at Hillside Stadium.

On the men’s side, the Pack and Spartans (5-4-2) played to a nil-nil draw, with Luca Ortu posting the clean sheet for TRU.

The Pack are 1-9-2 this season ahead of their match against the Heat (2-7-3) on Friday in Kelowna.
