SAVONA, B.C. — The Thompson Nicola Regional District issued a Boil Water Notice for the Savona Community Water System at 3 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 4).

Due to abnormally high turbidity levels (exceeding 5 Nephelometric Turbidity units), it is imperative that water be boiled or disinfected until further notice.

Turbidity is a measure of the degree to which the water loses its transparency due to the presence of suspended particulates, according to Lenntech.com.

Water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth must be boiled for one minute.

The acceptable boiling or disinfection method is to bring water to a rapid boil for at least one minute.

Property owners are asked to inform tenants of the notice.

Those with questions can call the TNRD toll free at 1-877- 377-8673.

Meanwhile, the Cariboo Regional District issued a Boil Water Notice to the Lac La Hache Water System at about 8 p.m. on Friday.
