KAMLOOPS — The final open burning prohibition in the Kamloops Fire Centre will be lifted at 12:00 p.m. Friday (Oct. 4).

In a news release issued Thursday morning, the BC Wildfire Service says Category 3 open fires will be permitted. That includes material in one or more piles exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width, one or more windows within 200 metres in length or 15 metres in width and stubble grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares.

The campfire prohibition throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre was lifted on Aug. 28 while Category 2 open burning was permitted on Sept. 18.

The wildfire service reminds residents that local governments may still have their own burning restrictions in place.

Additionally, residents are asked to ensure there are enough people, water and tools on hand to control a fire before burning, along with not burning in windy conditions, never leaving a fire unattended, creating a fire guard and ensuring the fire is full extinguished once finished.
